Spire is seeking a Utilityperson to work in the Montgomery, AL operation. Duties include utilizing Automated Meter Reading devices and operating an AMR vehicle. Install, replace, repair and program AMR’s in the field. Perform AMR field audits, atmospheric corrosion surveys, paint meters and turn off and remove residential meters (within 548’s jurisdiction). Locate lines, assemble and deliver appliances as needed. Assist Mechanics in the performance of their duties.

Duties and Responsibilities:    

  • Must be able to walk up to five miles daily, over varying terrain, and adapt to exposure to all types of weather conditions, while conducting audits and/or surveys, read all meters utilizing Automated Meter Reading devices or manually, as required, and install, replace, repair and program AMR’s in the field.
  • Must be capable of bending, stooping, crawling, etc. in order to accurately read meters which may be in not-readily accessible locations.
  • Must be capable of operating a motor vehicle in the performance of the job duties assigned to this position.
  • Communicate with customers, employees and supervisors, responding to inquiries resulting in mutual understanding.
  • Read, understand and complete required documentation associated with the completion of customer service requests and related activity.
  • Observe, recognize and report improper and potentially hazardous conditions in working on or around Company distribution facilities, customer appliances, or fuel line installations.
  • Lift and carry loads up to 50 lbs. including large meters, tools, equipment and other items necessary to the installation and repair of gas equipment, meters and regulators.
  • Assist, as directed, Service Mechanics in the performance of their duties, including but not limited to, leak surveys, and in doing so be able to utilize small tools and equipment necessary to the job functions
  • Deliver and assemble appliances, paint meters, locate lines, turn off and remove residential meters.
  • Must be able to operate various sizes of motor vehicles in the performance of the job duties assigned to this position.
